Trusts and Foundations

The lifeline we give to families who have lost their baby, infant or child would not be possible without the support of Trusts and Foundations.

Trusts and Foundations are vital to the work we do, and we value the support we receive from them immensely. By working together, we can create long lasting impact for bereaved families, helping them adapt to life after such catastrophic loss.

Why your support matters:

Together, we can build a Scotland where every family affected by baby loss receives the compassionate, expert support they need, for as long as they need it. Transforming how Scotland understands and responds to baby loss.

In 2025 we supported 679 individuals through 3,403 sessions across our hospital to home, peer support and counselling services. With your support, we can give more devastated families the care they so deserve at a time of unimaginable pain.

Delivering Measurable Change for Families

Our Hospital to Home project delivers measurable change, with families reporting dramatic improvements in wellbeing. From just 7% feeling any sense of wellbeing at their first appointment to 75% by their final session, this programme offers real hope at a time when everything feels impossible. Your support is what makes this transformation possible.

Our partnerships with Trusts and Foundations allow us to provide support free of charge across 5 Health Boards – NHS Lothians, Fife, Forth Valley, Borders and The Highlands.

Providing a Lasting Bond Between Parents and Their Babies

Every year we gift hundreds of hospital bags and in them, amongst other items, are beautiful Heart in Their Hand keyrings. The heart within the keyring pops out and can be placed in baby’s hand and parents keep the other half, building long lasting connection. Families have shared that the keyrings become deeply meaningful symbols of connection with their babies. Many chose to place one half of the heart with their child—held in tiny hands, resting in an urn, or kept close during their final journey—while keeping the matching half with them. Parents describe the comfort of knowing a part of the heart stays with their baby, and the other remains with them in daily life.

Transforming how Scotland Understands and Responds to Baby Loss

We provided 29 training sessions to 923 students and professionals in 2025. One student who attend our Compassionate Care training said:

“I found the session incredibly valuable, particularly the heartfelt contributions from Kate and Nicola, who bravely shared their personal experiences. Hearing these real-life stories offered a profound insight that no textbook or educational lecture could provide.

The inclusion of lived experiences significantly deepened my understanding of the role I will play as a future midwife in supporting individuals and families through such sensitive and challenging times. Thank you again for such an impactful and meaningful session.”
