Mollie, Luca & Lachlan’s Story – Milestones after Twin Loss
Milestones are an incredibly difficult thing, despite being unbelievably proud of everything my son, Lachlan, has overcome and how well he is doing, I find it very difficult as his twin brother, Luca, should be hitting them alongside his brother.
I find big occasions such as their birthday and the Christmas period the most difficult because I’m so torn between grieving and enjoying the time without the feeling, I’m forgetting to include Luca.
It’s not just the bigger occasions that can be tough, certain dates such as the day I found out I was having twins to the date I brought Lachlan home from hospital knowing I should have brought two babies home can be triggering. There is a reminder every day that Luca is missing, from buying one set of clothes to watching Lachlan playing by himself.
Luca and Lachlan were identical twins, so I feel fortunate to know how Luca would have looked as he grew older, however I always wonder what his personality would have been like.
Lachlan is due to start nursery next year and despite being excited for his next steps in life, I’m dreading the feeling of knowing he should be entering these steps with his brother by his side, navigating life together.
