Ahead of Father’s Day, we were delighted to welcome bereaved dads to our Craiglockhart office for a dads-only Pickleball and Pizza afternoon.
At Held In Our Hearts, we know that days such as Father’s Day can be incredibly difficult for fathers who are grieving the loss of a baby or child. Creating opportunities for dads to come together, connect with others who truly understand, and feel less alone in their grief is so important.
The afternoon was filled with plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and some surprisingly impressive Pickleball skills — we’re convinced there may be a future Scottish Pickleball champion amongst the group!
After the games, we gathered in our Parents’ Room to enjoy pizza and conversation. It was incredibly moving to hear the dads speak so openly about their experiences of loss, the lasting impact of grief, and the challenges they continue to face. Some had experienced their loss many years ago, while others were navigating more recent bereavement, but the understanding and support shared between them was powerful to witness.
We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped create such a warm, welcoming space. Events like these remind us how important peer support can be and why community matters.
To every bereaved dad; we see you, we remember your children, and we want you to know that our community is here for you.
Our community events will always be here for bereaved parents, offering connection, understanding, and support whenever it is needed.
