Our Highland Team, which is made up of Magi (Hospital to Home Worker), Jen (Counsellor), Lindsay (Peer Support Worker) and Natalie (Grants and Corporate Fundraiser), was delighted to find out they had been nominated for a Highland Heroes Award as Charitable Organisation of the Year.
The newspaper article which ran alongside the nomination read –
“They basically just wrap your heart in kindness when it’s at its most broken.”
That is how one parent described Held In Our Hearts, a charity that provides bereavement care for families after pregnancy loss, the death of a baby, or the death of a child up to school age.
Held In Our Hearts has been nominated for Highland Heroes Charity of the Year award.
Natalie Sutherland, fundraiser for the area, said: “We’re touched to have been nominated; the team here are like angels, they offer so much support. Bereaved parents across the Highlands face a unique challenge because living rurally can make the grief feel even more intense. There are so many decisions that can feel overwhelming when experiencing the loss of your baby; we are there to provide empathy, love and connection so that no one has to be alone at a time of unimaginable pain. Our support is there for as long as it is needed as grief doesn’t have an off switch; a birthday or an anniversary can heighten emotions and bring painful feelings to the surface all over again.”
The local team is made up of hospital-to-home worker Magi Mackenzie, peer supporter Lindsay Donaldson, and counsellor Jen Keppie.
The nomination concluded: “The team cares and they ‘really get it’, I hope they know they saved us.”
To be nominated by one of our families means the world to the entire Held In Our Hearts team.
